Started off real right down the middle. If we don't need to drive, then what does that car look like? What are we doing in there? Drew some blobby two sided cars, made a user profile, tried to map what a car is used for, and talked to a lot of people about driving. "What do you like about your car?" "What do you like about driving?" "If it was driverless what would you miss?"
In a class review, I shared some work and that I was thinking of focusing on errands, specifically grocery runs. The class got SO excited riffing on integrating retail. "Watch an ad for a discount on ice cream!" "Redirect you to store to buy a thing you're texting someone about!" A logical next step in the attention economy, but I *hated* it.
In my interviews something that had come up again and again was how in their own car, alone, people found a break. A pause. Their favorite music. Some silence. A time to decompress. To be solitary. A time to put the phone down. Or sit in the driveway. As soon as I said "No you monsters, the only nice thing about driving right now is having a moment alone," I knew I found my concept <3
